Atel (German: Hetzeldorf, Hungarian: Ecel) is a commune in Sibiu County, Transylvania, consisting of the villages Atel and Dupuș. The first documentary mention dates from 1283, with the fortified church first recorded in 1380. The medieval church fortress is today the main attraction and a characteristic example of Saxon defensive architecture in Transylvania.
