Poienari Fortress (Vlad Tepes Castle)

Poienari Fortress lies atop Cetățuia Mountain, around 25 km northwest of Curtea de Argeș, in the scenic Argeș Valley. Built in the 14th century under Negru Vodă and expanded by Vlad Țepeș, it served as a strategic base against the Ottomans and one of his residences. The fortress was never conquered. Also known as “Vlad Țepeș’s Fortress,” it offers insight into Romania’s medieval history and the legend of Vlad the Impaler.
